Foreign languages on the website
What it is
The Languages screen in the website administration. It is where you make your website available in more languages and fill in translations of your texts.
It is part of the Standard plan and above.
Why you need it
A foreign guest books more readily when they understand what they are reading. At the same time the website ranks better in searches in that country.
Which languages you can choose
| Code | Language |
|---|---|
| sk | Slovenčina |
| cs | Čeština |
| en | English |
| de | Deutsch |
| pl | Polski |
| hu | Magyar |
How to add a language
- In the left menu open Languages.
- In the website languages block tick the languages the website should offer.
- Mark one of them with the Set as main button. The main language is the one you write your content in - everything is translated from it.
- Click Save languages.
The language switch appears to guests on the website only when you have more than one language.
The main language has no suffix in the address, the others have a prefix - for
example youraddress.com/en/.
How to add translations
- Scroll down to the content translations block.
- Choose the language you want to translate into.
- Go through the fields and fill in the translations.
- Click Save translations.
An empty field is not a fault. It just means the text in the main language will be shown on the website. So you can translate only the most important things and leave the rest.
What can be translated
The fields are grouped by where they come from:
| Group | What it contains |
|---|---|
| Home page | The intro subtitle, the About us heading and text, highlights, section headings |
| Service | The name and description of a service |
| Room | Room name, short description, detailed description |
| News article | Title, intro, article text |
| FAQ question | Question, answer, group |
| Point in the surroundings | Name, description |
Automatic translation
In the automatic translation block you can have the system fill in the translations for you.
- Choose a language.
- Click Auto-translate.
- Read the suggestions and check them.
- Click Save translations.
Two things worth knowing:
- Automatic translation fills in only empty fields. It will not overwrite your own translations.
- The suggestions are only saved once you click Save translations. Until then they are merely filled into the fields.
Automatic translation has a monthly character limit. How much you have used and when the limit resets is shown right above the button. The limit resets on the first day of the month.
A machine translation is not a human translation. For the texts that sell - the opening sentence, a room description - it is worth going through the suggestion and polishing it.
Common problems
The Languages item has a padlock. It is part of the Standard plan.
I have nothing to translate. You first need content filled in in the main language - texts, rooms, news. Then the fields appear.
Guests are not offered a language switch. You only have one language turned on.
I translated a text but the website is still in Slovak. Check that you clicked Save translations, and that you translated into the language you are looking at.
Automatic translation does not work. Either the monthly limit is used up (it resets on the first day of the next month), or the translation service is temporarily overloaded. Try again later - you can always add translations manually.
