Surroundings, FAQ and News
What it is
Three extra sections you can add to the website. Each has its own item in the left menu and each appears both on the home page and on its own subpage.
All three are part of the Standard plan and above. On the Basic plan you see them with a padlock.
Why you need them
- Surroundings sells the stay. A guest is not buying just a room, they are buying what they will do.
- FAQ saves you phone calls. You answer once and the guest reads it themselves.
- News draws attention to seasonal offers and improves the website's position in search engines.
Surroundings
How to add a tip
- In the left menu open Surroundings.
- Click Add point.
- Fill in the name, the category and the distance in km.
- Optionally add a description and a link to that place's website.
- Optionally fill in the latitude and longitude - then the point appears on the map. You will find the coordinates in Google Maps by right-clicking the spot.
- Click Save point.
In the section settings block you can change the section heading and add a short introduction.
The map needs its own key
The section works without a key - numbered cards of the points appear, just without the map. With a key you also get an interactive map.
The key comes from Google and is free for normal traffic. Step-by-step instructions are right there on the screen under the How to get a key? button. Paste the finished key into the Google Maps API key field and save the settings.
FAQ
How to add a question
- In the left menu open FAQ.
- Click Add question.
- Fill in the question and the answer.
- Optionally fill in the group - for example "Booking" or "Your stay". Questions with the same group appear together on the website under one heading. An empty field means no group.
- Click Save question.
What is worth putting here
The things guests ring you about: arrival time, parking, breakfast, pets, cancellation terms, wifi.
News
How to write an article
- In the left menu open News.
- Click Add article.
- Fill in the title and the category.
- The URL address (slug) is generated automatically from the title. Change it only if you know why.
- Optionally add a cover photo - you paste a link to an image, for example from your own gallery.
- Write the intro - a short lead-in that appears on the article card.
- Write the article text.
- In the publishing block choose one of three options:
| Option | What happens |
|---|---|
| Draft (not public) | The article is saved, nobody sees it on the website |
| Publish now | It appears on the website as soon as you save |
| Schedule for a date | It appears by itself on the day and time you set |
- Click Save article.
Scheduled publishing is useful for seasonal promotions - you write them in advance and they publish themselves.
A section does not appear on the website while it is empty
This applies to all three. An empty section would look like a fault on the website, so we hide it. You will see this in Content & design → Homepage sections, where such a section says what is missing, with a button that takes you there.
Common problems
The menu items have a padlock. They are part of the Standard plan. You change
your plan on the ubytora.com portal.
I added tips but the section is not on the website. Check in Content & design → Homepage sections that the section is switched on.
The map does not appear. Either the Google Maps key is missing, or the points do not have coordinates filled in. Without both values a point cannot get onto the map.
A scheduled article was not published. Check the publication date and time, and that the article is not saved as a draft.
I deleted an article by mistake. Deletion cannot be undone, the article has to be written again.
